Donald Trump Drops Part of $10 Billion BBC Lawsuit
Court papers say Trump will continue his case against the BBC after dropping claims against its commercial arms, while seeking $10 billion in damages.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump dismissed claims against BBC Studios, the broadcaster's commercial arm, while continuing his $10 billion lawsuit against the main BBC entity over a controversial Panorama documentary.
Filed in December, the lawsuit alleges that Panorama doctored footage of Trump's January 6, 2021, speech to falsely portray him inciting violence, violating Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
Trump seeks $10 billion in damages, alleging the edited clips were more than 50 minutes apart, though the BBC maintains the documentary never aired in the U.S.
Reports indicate the U.S. government is considering joining the litigation, a prospect the BBC warned creates a 'conflict of interest' regarding potential disclosure of sensitive records.
A trial is set for February 2027 in the Southern District of Florida to resolve Trump's remaining claims against the Defendant British Broadcasting Corporation.
