DogeOS Opens Public Testnet with DOGE Fees and EVM Smart Contracts

DogeOS said developers can use familiar Ethereum tools to build and test Dogecoin apps before mainnet, as the project expands beyond payments.

  • On Wednesday, the team behind the MyDoge wallet launched DogeOS, a public testnet bringing an EVM-compatible application layer to Dogecoin with DOGE as its native transaction-fee token.
  • Supported by a $6.9 million funding round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025, the project aims to expand Dogecoin's ecosystem utility beyond its historical reliance on Elon Musk.
  • DogeOS enables developers to use Ethereum-compatible tools to build applications, with early ecosystem projects including Barkswap, Superposition Finance, and Derps developing decentralized finance and lending protocols.
  • CEO Jordan Jefferson noted the network currently relies on a permissioned sequencer and validator signatures for security, rather than native Dogecoin Core ZK-proof verification at launch.
  • Dogecoin Foundation director Timothy Stebbing expressed support for the initiative, stating his hope that DogeOS becomes "the gateway for the next 100 startups" building on Dogecoin.
