Disneyland abandoned plans for Disney Villains land, report says

  • About a decade ago, Walt Disney Imagineering drew up a Disney Villains land for the former Paradise Pier at Disney California Adventure but abandoned it for Pixar Pier, The Wrap reports.
  • During the Paradise Pier reimagining, Imagineering developed Villains Land concepts but the park pivoted to Pixar Pier, which built on the $1.1 billion reimagining of Disney California Adventure.
  • Design sketches showed California Screamin' tunnels as a giant Jafar snake, the coaster loop shaped like Captain Hook’s hook, an Ursula-themed Dumbo spinner, and The Little Mermaid in the coaster’s western helix.
  • The pivot produced lighter Pixar rethemes in Pixar Pier, while the Disney Experiences division topped $10 billion in revenue and accounted for 71% of operating profit.
  • The Wrap reports elements from the abandoned DCA Villains Land concepts reappeared in revised plans for Magic Kingdom, including the Ursula spinner, while a Disney Parks representative declined to comment.
