Over 500,000 South Carolinians Participate in First Week of Early Voting
Nearly 564,000 voters cast ballots as of 3 p.m., topping South Carolina's 2022 pre-Election Day total by more than 2,000, officials said.
South Carolina voters set a new midterm record as nearly 564,000 ballots were cast ahead of the November 3, 2026, elections, topping the 2022 total by more than 2,000 votes.
Legislation signed in May 2022 formalized the current early voting system, replacing the previous requirement that voters select a specific reason for absentee voting.
Data shows 501,944 ballots were cast between October 19 and October 24, though turnout remains below the 1.5 million early votes recorded two years ago during the presidential election cycle.
Early voting remains available through Saturday, October 31, with counties required to provide at least one location open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The general election on November 3, 2026, approaches; with the absentee ballot request deadline having passed last week, voters must now utilize in-person early voting or wait until Election Day.
