Technological sovereignty has changed from a technical to a political and social issue. Up to 86% of Spaniards and 87% of national companies demand that Europe develop its own technology to be more competitive and another 62% believe that dependence on third countries such as the United States or China poses a threat to security. Among companies, concern for this risk drops to 49%.
Most Spaniards believe that Europe must strengthen its technological autonomy in order to reduce its dependence on the big US and Chinese companies. In Spain, the first major survey on digital sovereignty reveals that the debate has already taken place in companies and citizens, although many still do not know how to name it.
