RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NEW YORK CITY, JUL 19 – The suspect stabbed his wife and toddler before attempting suicide; police are investigating the motive amid two homicides reported this year in the precinct.
- According to authorities, just after 7 p.m. on July 19 inside a Ridgewood apartment on Forest Avenue near Menahan Street, a man allegedly stabbed his wife and 2-year-old daughter to death then turned the knife on himself.
- Sources familiar with the preliminary investigation say the suspect FaceTimed his nephew during the assault, police sources say the motive remains unknown and under investigation, and investigators are treating it as a murder-suicide attempt.
- First responders responded, EMS rushed the wounded mother to Elmhurst Hospital and the daughter to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center where both died, and the suspect remains hospitalized in critical condition.
- A neighbor said, `This isn't normal you just don't see gurneys and people filled with blood coming out of a building.`
- The investigation continues, and authorities are probing what sparked the violence.
