Delta pilot didn’t recall instructions before NYC airport ground collision, NTSB report says
The Delta pilot missed a ground control instruction while focused on performance calculations, contributing to the collision that injured one flight attendant, NTSB said.
- On the night of Oct. 1, a Delta Air Lines regional jet with 32 people preparing for takeoff to Roanoke collided with a plane arriving from Charlotte carrying 61 people at LaGuardia Airport, New York.
- The ground controller instructed outbound flight 5155 to 'give way,' and the captain of flight 5155 said he did not recall hearing it because he was focused on performance calculations and trim verification.
- The captain of flight 5155 attempted to veer left while the captain of flight 5047 applied brakes immediately before the collision, which injured a flight attendant and damaged the nose and wing.
- The NTSB said the investigation is continuing and the preliminary report does not cite a cause, while Delta Air Lines said it is fully cooperating with the investigation.
- The NTSB preliminary report released Thursday described the collision as occurring at the intersection of two taxiways at LaGuardia Airport involving flights 5155 and 5047.

The captain of one of the Delta Air Lines regional jets that collided at the intersection of two taxiways at LaGuardia Airport in New York City last month told investigators he did not recall hearing instructions to give way to the other plane, according to a preliminary report Thursday from the NTSB.
The Amsterdam city council strongly opposed the publication of a report published today by its own ombudsman regarding Amsterdam's integrity policy. Mayor Femke Halsema wanted to prevent publication.
The investigation continues and the NTSB report does not indicate the cause of the collision between flights 5155 and 5047.
