Protest at AI Summit: Court Sends Four Youth Congress Workers to Five-Day Police Custody
Four Indian Youth Congress workers were remanded to five days of police custody after protesting with anti-government slogans during the India AI Impact Summit, police said.
- On Friday at the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, four Indian Youth Congress workers wearing protest T-shirts were escorted out and detained, then produced before Patiala House Court on Saturday.
- Delhi Police told the court that the protest was a conspiracy to defame the country and inspired by Nepal's GenZ protests, alleging some waved `PM Modi is compromised` T-shirts while going topless.
- The arrested individuals were named as Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar and Narasimha Yadav; police said three policemen were injured and all alleged offences carry up to 7 years' punishment.
- The court remanded the accused to five days' police custody after the police said custody was necessary to arrest others who fled and conduct custodial interrogation, while the defence counsel argued the FIR is political and the accused are exercising democratic rights.
- Despite footage showing no violence, the public prosecutor argued the accused raised anti‑national slogans and wore T‑shirts against the Prime Minister before international leaders and other prominent attendees.
