Delhi High Court Sentences YouTuber Gulshan Pahuja to 6 Months in Jail for Calling Judiciary ‘Dictatorship’
The bench said his videos scandalized three judicial officers and imposed the maximum punishment in each contempt matter, with the sentence suspended for 60 days.
On May 16, the Delhi High Court sentenced YouTuber Gulshan Pahuja to six months imprisonment for contempt, suspending the term for 60 days to allow an appeal before the Supreme Court.
Three judicial officers brought videos from Pahuja's channel, 'Fight 4 Judicial Reforms,' to court's attention, prompting Justices Navin Chawla and Ravinder Dudeja to impose the maximum punishment under the Act.
Maintaining his actions aimed at judicial reform, Pahuja compared the court's 'arbitrary actions' to dictatorship and stated he would not ask for leniency or 'expect justice' from the bench.
Imposing a fine of ₹2,000, the court ruled that Pahuja must surrender before the Registrar General after 60 days unless the Supreme Court grants a suspension order.
While criticizing judicial officers requires cogent evidence, the court emphasized that dissatisfied litigants should utilize the hierarchy of courts rather than scandalizing the system.
