Delhi withdraws Class 9 R3 rule that could have blocked students from Class 10 board exams

Delhi has withdrawn a provision that could have prevented Class 9 students from appearing for Class 10 board exams if they failed the third language (R3). The move follows confusion over the earlier rule and aligns Delhi’s policy with CBSE guidelines, under which R3 is assessed internally and does not determine a student’s eligibility for the board examination.

While R3 marks will appear on the final CBSE certificate, its score will have no bearing on a student's eligibility to appear in the Class 10 board. CBSE had introduced a three-language policy NEP 2020 and the NCF-SE 2023.
