UK to deploy more troops and 'Sky Sabre' weapons system to Middle East
The UK is sending advanced air defence systems and troops to Gulf allies to counter over 1,280 hours of Iranian missile and drone attacks, Defence Secretary John Healey said.
- Defence Secretary John Healey announced that the United Kingdom is deploying extra troops and air defence systems to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait, while extending Typhoon jets in Qatar to counter Iranian attacks.
- Healey stated, "Iran's aggressive attacks continue to threaten our allies and interests in the Middle East." The government has been flying defensive missions since the conflict began to protect British interests.
- The deployment includes the Sky Sabre missile system in Saudi Arabia and Rapid Sentry in Kuwait, while the Lightweight Multirole Missile launcher has arrived in Bahrain to integrate with local defences.
- On Monday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the United Kingdom is "not going to get dragged into this war." President Donald Trump criticized the approach, telling allies to "get your own oil."
- "My message to Gulf partners is: Britain's best will help you defend your skies," Healey said, paying tribute to the "heroic efforts" of allies across the Gulf as the government pushes for conflict resolution.
