- Police registered an FIR on August 22 under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alleging Khanam was subjected to mental and physical abuse, assault, and threats by her husband, mother-in-law Samimun Nisha, and father-in-law Babar Ali Khan.
- Mohammad Azam Ali Khan told investigators the couple argued before the incident, claiming Khanam locked him in a room; a PCR call at 4.21 a.m. on August 21 brought police to the scene, where her body was moved to DDU Hospital.
