Horan Succeeds McAleese as Chair of Integration Group
The ratification follows Mary McAleese’s resignation, and Horan brings years of GAA leadership experience to the integration effort.
On Thursday, management committees of the GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football Association, and Camogie Association ratified John Horan as the new chairperson of the Steering Group on Integration, replacing Mary McAleese.
McAleese resigned as chairperson of the Steering Group on Integration last month, claiming "the commitment to integration has evaporated" within the GAA management committee, which she alleged had blocked progress.
GAA President Jarlath Burns described Horan as an "outstanding choice," while LGFA President Trina Murray called him a "huge asset" who knows Gaelic games inside out.
Horan stated he is "excited to take on" the responsibility of leading the Steering Group on Integration, aiming to harness potential across the GAA, Camogie Association, and LGFA.
Meaningful progress with integration of the GAA, Camogie Association, and LGFA is expected at the 2027 GAA Special Congress, according to Burns at an Oireachtas sports committee hearing earlier this week.
