Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) announced on Friday that the Czech Republic this year, like last year, will not meet its NATO commitment to spend two percent of GDP on defense.
Three NATO countries have once again spent less on their defense than agreed, according to NATO sources. The Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Albania appear not to have met the agreed minimum last year, while they are already required to work towards a much higher defense budget. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth threatened punishment: “Europe was not intended as a territory of dependency.”
