Flying Scotsman to Appear at World's Largest Gathering of Railway Vehicles in UK
DERBY, UNITED KINGDOM, AUG 1 – The festival will feature over 100 historic and modern trains with up to 30,000 attendees expected to celebrate 200 years of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
- The Flying Scotsman steam locomotive will be featured at The Greatest Gathering festival, held from August 1 to 3, 2025, at Alstom’s long-established facility in Derby.
- The event marks Railway 200, celebrating 200 years since the Stockton and Darlington Railway opened in 1825 and honors the UK's rail history including the Flying Scotsman’s record achievements.
- Built in Doncaster in 1923 by Sir Nigel Gresley as a Class A1, the Flying Scotsman hauled the first non-stop London-Edinburgh train in 1928 and reached 100 mph in 1934, a British steam record.
- Alstom added 2,500 more tickets daily to the sold-out festival, with managing director Rob Whyte describing the Flying Scotsman's presence as a meaningful celebration of the UK's rich steam railway heritage.
- The festival will showcase over 100 historic and modern vehicles, aiming to inspire future engineers and celebrate the past and future of railways alongside the National Railway Museum's collection.
