CTI claims 2.5 lakh shops may remain shut in Delhi over INDIA bloc rally, warns of trade losses
CTI said traffic restrictions and crowding around Ramlila Maidan halted supplies and left about 2.5 lakh shops shut, risking up to Rs 12,000 crore in losses.
- The Chamber of Trade and Industry warned that around 250,000 shops within a five-kilometre radius of Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan could remain closed due to the INDIA bloc rally.
- Traders expressed concerns that traffic restrictions, heavy crowds and transportation disruptions could severely affect business during the peak Diwali shopping season.
- The CTI estimated that nearly 80 per cent of approximately 300,000 shops in the affected commercial areas could shut, disrupting retail and wholesale activities.
- The traders’ body warned that blocked roads and interrupted goods movement could affect thousands of transport vehicles and prevent customers from neighbouring cities from reaching Delhi’s markets.
- Following the November 1 rally, the CTI claimed that business losses had reached approximately ₹10,000–11,000 crore, although the figure represents the traders’ estimate.
