Croatia ex-international Simic held in graft case: report
USKOK suspects Simic and two others obtained permits for a 10-pitch campsite through unlawful documents and abuse of office, HINA said.
- Former Croatian international defender Dario Simic was arrested Tuesday in Zagreb during an anti-corruption operation, with investigators suspecting he illegally obtained permits for a campsite in Tisno on Croatia's central Adriatic coast.
- Authorities allege Simic obtained these permits with assistance from Neda Livljanic, a former head of the Sibenik-Knin County Tourism Department, claiming the land was situated entirely outside designated construction zones.
- The campsite project involved 10 pitches for up to 30 people, and Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime investigators claim Livljanic issued permits based on forged inspection reports that were never carried out.
- Police and USKOK agents arrested Livljanic alongside Simic; while officials have not issued a formal statement, local media published photographs of the former defender exiting a police vehicle.
- This case continues investigations into unlawful campsite permits on Murter, as USKOK previously charged Livljanic and others, including businessman Zoran Pripuz and former Croatian Camping Association head Eduard Marzic, with abuse of power.
