The large group of criminal defense lawyers who, in protest, stopped visiting their clients in the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) and "EBI-light" since mid-November are returning to their work. They are doing this in anticipation of announced investigations and in the interest of their clients. Starting Monday, they will resume visiting detainees in these prison regimes. This is good news for the progress of several major criminal cases.
Dozens of lawyers went on strike in those departments last November in protest against mandatory camera surveillance.
Inmates in the toughest prison regimes can once again see their lawyers. A group of 46 lawyers has decided to suspend their strike. They will resume their visits to the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught and the four Intensive Supervision Units (AIT) on Monday.
