Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Lorne Doerkson on Track to Win Re-Election for Third Time in a Row
Doerkson won 79% of the vote as the Conservatives moved toward a majority government, according to preliminary results.
On Saturday, interim British Columbia Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson secured re-election in the riding of Cariboo-Chilcotin. The incumbent MLA has served the district since 2020, returning to the legislature for a third term.
Doerkson previously represented the Liberal Party before rebranding to United and eventually joining the Conservative Party. He assumed interim leadership shortly before the snap election, replacing former leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay.
Preliminary polls show Doerkson capturing 79 per cent of the vote with 18 of 89 ballot boxes counted. Rivals Kathryn Askew of the NDP and Douglas Gook of the Green Party secured roughly 14.4 per cent and 5.9 per cent respectively.
As of Saturday, the Conservative Party appears on track to form a majority government. The party's success in Cariboo-Chilcotin mirrors broader electoral gains across the province.
The Interior riding remains a reliable stronghold for the Conservatives, having consistently supported the party or the Liberal Party since 2009. This victory reaffirms the region's enduring political alignment.
