B.C. Votes 2026: Conservative Kevin Acton Elected as Vernon-Lumby MLA
Acton credited months of campaign work as the Conservatives projected a majority government and Harwinder Sandhu conceded after trailing in early results.
Conservative Kevin Acton won the Vernon-Lumby seat in Saturday's provincial snap election, securing his first term in the B.C. Legislature while the Conservatives achieved a projected majority government.
After placing third as an Independent in 2024 with 15 per cent of the vote, Acton successfully pivoted to the Conservative ticket, marking a significant political shift.
Lumby's mayor for 17 years, Acton attributed his victory to community work and promised to personally fund a by-election for his mayoral seat, a one per cent tax increase.
NDP incumbent Harwinder Sandhu conceded on Saturday, telling supporters, "We're not going anywhere, we'll be back stronger and better and learning from this," while trailing with approximately half the votes.
Final counts between Nov. 6 and 10 will clarify close ridings, with a judicial recount triggered if the margin between candidates falls within 1/500th of total votes cast.
