CP Elenore Sturko loses seat for CentreBC in return to Surrey South
The Canadian Press decision desk says she lost to B.C. Conservative Megan Knight after switching parties three times since 2022.
On Saturday, The Canadian Press projected that CentreBC Leader Elenore Sturko lost her bid to win back her former seat in Surrey South during the October 24, 2026 British Columbia election.
Sturko, a former RCMP officer, was first elected as a B.C. Liberal in 2022, then joined the Conservatives and later sat as an Independent before announcing in September she was joining CentreBC.
Ousted from the Conservatives by former leader John Rustad for caucus unity, Sturko remained as CentreBC leader when seven other defectors returned to the party after Kerry-Lynn Findlay resigned and Lorne Doerkson became interim leader.
Sturko described CentreBC as "socially progressive and fiscally responsible" while leading the party through the election, though the organization failed to secure any seats in the provincial legislature.
Conservative Megan Knight defeated Sturko in Surrey South, marking a loss in a different riding than her 2024 win in nearby Surrey-Cloverdale, where she had previously served as an elected MLA.
