Court of Appeals will hear arguments in Delphi murders this September
Allen’s lawyers say the conviction rests on an unconstitutional search, coerced confessions and blocked defense evidence.
- The Indiana Court of Appeals set a September 21 hearing for Richard Allen's appeal of his 2024 conviction in the murders of Abigail "Abby" Williams and Liberty "Libby" German near Delphi.
- Convicted in November 2024 after a weekslong trial, Allen was sentenced to 130 years in prison for the 2017 deaths of the two teenagers found near the Monon High Bridge Trail.
- Defense attorneys argue the search of Allen's home was unconstitutional and that confessions made during 13 months of solitary confinement were "involuntary, the product of unconstitutional detention and inadmissible."
- The appeal also contends the trial court denied Allen his right to present a complete defense by blocking evidence regarding alternative suspects connected to Norse Paganism.
- Arguments are scheduled for 10 a.m. on September 21 in the Supreme Court Courtroom in Indianapolis, where prosecution and defense will each receive 30 minutes to present their case.
