Twelve years after the contract was signed, Russia's Rosatom is starting to expand Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant. The project was granted an exemption from US sanctions against the Russian energy sector last year. The Hungarian government has described the project as a flagship project for the revitalization of European nuclear energy.

Hungary has made this Friday a huge step towards the expansion of the Paks nuclear centre. The project, which lasted more than a decade to start, is funded almost entirely by Russia.
Concrete began pouring on Thursday for a new reactor at Hungary's only nuclear power plant, launching a controversial expansion project led by Russia's Rosatom after a decade of delays.
