Hamas has "the legitimate right" to be armed and any proposals made for the implementation of the next phases of the Gaza Strip will have to respect this, Hamas' leader in the Palestinian territory, Khalil al-Hayya, reported to the AFP.
According to the terms of the American agreement which came into force at the beginning of October, the Islamist movement must eventually be disarmed.
This "right" is linked to the creation of a Palestinian state, said Khalil Hayya on Al-Aqsa television.
