The city of Columbus says there is a multi-agency response underway this morning to rescue 12 people and their pets from a homeless camp near the East Fork White River south of downtown Columbus. The unhoused individuals are not injured but were unable to safely self rescue from their camp. COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Fire Department rescued eight unhoused persons and four pets that were surrounded by water on Saturday. According to CFD, firefighters worked alongside county agencies to save the individuals and their pets when they were surrounded by water.
