SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, JUL 20 – Thought Process won the $200,000 Grade II San Clemente Handicap by 1½ lengths under jockey Héctor Berrios, marking her fifth turf win in six starts, trainer Phil D’Amato said.
- On the turf course at Del Mar, Thought Process won the Grade II San Clemente Handicap, cruising by 1½ lengths under Héctor Berrios as the 2-5 favorite.
- Earlier this year, Thought Process returned from a 7½-month break to win an allowance at Santa Anita, following her Oct. 6 Surfer Girl victory and a 4-for-4 Del Mar grass record.
- Finish-Line data shows Thought Process finished in 1:36.24 on firm turf, her payouts reflected favoritism, and Héctor Berrios said `She led in the stretch and then she went.`
- Phil D’Amato, trainer, saddled both stakes winners at Del Mar, producing his 66th and 67th seaside stakes wins, and he said `You never get tired of this, especially at Del Mar.`
- With this win, Thought Process is positioned for the Del Mar Mile, solidifying a 5-for-6 turf miles record.
