Elina Svitolina Powers Past Coco Gauff in Italian Open Final
Svitolina ended Gauff’s title bid after nearly three hours and won her first WTA 1000 crown since 2018.
On Saturday, Elina Svitolina claimed her third Italian Open title by defeating Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in Rome, marking her first WTA 1000 title since 2018.
Gauff lost in the Rome final for the second straight year, having previously fallen to Jasmine Paolini here before winning the French Open last year.
Home favorite Jannik Sinner secured a spot in Sunday's final after finishing off Daniil Medvedev in 15 minutes on Saturday, moving one victory away from a Masters 1000 title.
Facing Casper Ruud, who routed Luciano Darderi 6-1, 6-1 on Friday, Sinner seeks to become the first Italian man to win the trophy since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
With a 28-match winning streak, Sinner could sweep all three clay-court Masters titles before the French Open, completing a historic season ahead of the Grand Slam.
