Coca-Cola Says Fairlife Ransomware Attack Halts US Dairy Production
Coca-Cola said fairlife’s product quality was not affected, and Canada operations remain open while the company restores systems.
On Thursday, The Coca-Cola Company announced its subsidiary, Fairlife, LLC, temporarily suspended production in the United States after unauthorized third-party access to production-related systems.
Coca-Cola acquired the Chicago-based dairy company in 2020 to operate as a standalone business; Fairlife represents one of the company's major brands with an estimated $4 billion in sales by 2024.
Product quality and safety have not been affected, while Fairlife's production operations in Canada remain operational and the company investigates with external cybersecurity experts.
The company activated incident response and business continuity protocols and notified law enforcement, though it has not determined when systems will be restored or the potential financial impact.
Past ransomware incidents at Arizona Beverages in 2019 and UNFI last year resulted in weeks-long disruptions, demonstrating that food and beverage companies face lasting effects from such attacks.
