It is the minority cabinet's first 'polder consultation' regarding a social agreement on, among other things, the AOW, WW, and WIA.
As far as Prime Minister Rob Jetten is concerned, the cabinet will continue working on plans regarding social security in the coming period. Following a meeting at the Catshuis, the trade unions indicated that they no longer wish to continue talks. Regarding the cabinet, "the door is always open, and I hope that employers and employees will also want to continue talking with us soon."
The trade unions, employers, and the cabinet have failed to reach an agreement on the cuts the government intends to make to social security. "The problem continues to hang over the market," said Hans Spekman (FNV) afterwards. The trade unions are announcing industrial action.
At the Catshuis in The Hague, trade unions and employers' organizations are meeting with the cabinet to discuss the future of social security. CNV Chairman Hans van den Heuvel still has many questions regarding the letter the cabinet sent concerning the cuts to social security.
