- Pressure from government servants and teachers, including protests since last month, prompted the DMK to fulfill its poll pledge by reverting to the Old Pension Scheme.
- Employees will contribute 10% of their basic pay, while the Tamil Nadu government plans Rs 11,000 crore annually and a one-time Rs 13,000 crore contribution.
- JACTTO-GEO and FOTA-GEO withdrew an indefinite strike planned from January 6, while union representatives thanked M.K. Stalin, crediting the move with winning a vital electorate segment ahead of the 2026 assembly election.
