- Powerful winds destroyed homes and infrastructure in Streator, Merrillville, and Bartlett. In Merrillville, resident Billy Navarro described the scene as "lots and lots of damage; power outages, trees down, fences down. It's a warzone."
- NIPSCO shut off power to most of Merrillville Thursday night, while flight disruptions impacted Chicago's O'Hare International and Midway International airports. Emergency crews established reunification centers and shelters for displaced residents.
- The National Weather Service will survey the region over the coming days to determine the total number of tornadoes that touched down. Red Cross shelters remain open for residents whose homes were destroyed.
