Voice Phishers Strike Again, This Time Hitting Cisco
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUG 5 – The breach exposed basic profile data of Cisco.com users after a vishing attack tricked an employee, prompting Cisco to enhance security and notify authorities, the company said.
- On July 24, 2025, Cisco discovered a data breach after a voice phishing attack targeted one of its representatives, compromising a third-party CRM system used by Cisco.
- The attacker tricked the employee via vishing, gaining access to and exporting basic user profile data belonging to individuals registered on Cisco.com.
- The compromised information encompassed personal and professional details such as individual and company names, physical and email contact information, Cisco-assigned user identifiers, and various account-related metadata; however, no passwords or other sensitive customer data were accessed.
- Cisco immediately locked out the attacker, launched an investigation, notified affected users and authorities, and announced plans to re-educate personnel against vishing attacks.
- This breach did not affect Cisco’s products or services, and the company is implementing enhanced security measures to reduce future incident risks.
