Church Day ends in Hanover with open-air service

Since Wednesday, tens of thousands of believers have celebrated the Protestant Church Congress in Hanover. The event now concluded with an open-air service – with appeals for tolerance and confidence.

The political church festival in Hanover ends as it began: with a divine service under the open sky. The host city for 2027 is already established.

The Protestant Church Congress returned to Hanover – where it began in 1949. Tens of thousands discussed faith, attitude, society, peace. But the peace movement and the Church Congress were closer.

The statement that church must be more than a non-governmental organization was relatively harmless, said the CDU politician. Church must be a tick more: "And the tick more is faith."
