Christmas: The State Treasury Withdrew 10.2 Billion From Budapest's Account on Political Orders

The mayor will file a complaint if the capital does not receive the money back. Payments have been stopped at three capital companies due to debt collection.

The Hungarian State Treasury has deducted the next 10.2 billion tranche of the solidarity contribution from the capital's account. According to Gergely Karácsony, the city government bears no responsibility.

Public transport in the capital has not yet been suspended, but some investment amounts and other daily payments have already had to be stopped at the Budapest Municipality, after the Hungarian State Treasury withdrew 10.2 billion from the capital's account, causing liquidity problems, despite Budapest's immediate request for legal protection from the court.

Despite the capital's request for legal assistance from the court, the Hungarian State Treasury carried out debt collection before the decision was made. Mayor Gergely Karácsony said the move was unlawful. The municipality is preparing for drastic resource cuts.

Gergely Karácsony held another extraordinary press conference after announcing that the state had collected 10.2 billion forints from the capital's account.

According to the mayor, the Hungarian State Treasury illegally accessed the capital's current account on Thursday morning, ignoring immediate legal protection, and therefore they are resorting to new legal means. In addition, immediate measures are being introduced to preserve the capital's liquidity. There is also a candidate to replace the resigned BKK head.
