Chris Lynn: Northants Batter Failed T20 Blast Finals Day Drug Test
The regulator said the cocaine use was out of competition and reduced Lynn’s proposed three-month ban after treatment.
Northamptonshire Steelbacks batter Chris Lynn served a one-month ban after testing positive for cocaine following his team's T20 Vitality Blast Final victory on July 18, 2026.
Although the test occurred on Finals Day, the Cricket Regulator accepted evidence that Lynn used the substance on July 15 and 16, determining the violation was "out-of-competition" and "unrelated to sporting performance."
Lynn agreed to "complete a substance of abuse treatment programme," prompting the regulator to reduce his initial three-month suspension to one month, served between July 31 and August 30, 2026.
Clearing Northampton Steelbacks of wrongdoing, the Cricket Regulator stated, "Under ADR Article 11 there is no requirement that Northampton Steelbacks receive any form of sanction."
Reports indicate the 36-year-old has signed with the Melbourne Renegades ahead of the Big Bash League season, and he is now free to continue his professional career.
