China warns state-owned firms and government agencies against OpenClaw AI: Report

Chinese regulators warn that OpenClaw AI's broad system access poses cybersecurity risks, with over 40,000 vulnerable instances exposed online, prompting restrictions in state agencies and banks.

  • On Mar 10, Chinese authorities moved to restrict OpenClaw use at state-owned enterprises and government agencies after China's National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center issued a security advisory warning of cybersecurity risks.
  • In February, security researchers found more than 40,000 exposed OpenClaw instances with over 60% vulnerable; the 'ClawJacked' flaw allowed silent hijacking, API key theft, and command execution.
  • On Mar 6, around 1,000 people queued outside Tencent and about 1,000 attended a Baidu installation session on Mar 11, while Shenzhen's Longgang district pledged up to 2 million yuan for startups.
  • Authorities required state agency and bank staff to get prior approval before OpenClaw use, notify superiors for security checks, and extended restrictions to families of military personnel.
  • At the Two Sessions, policymakers urged faster AI adoption, while Tencent and JD.com rolled out OpenClaw apps despite warnings and MiniMax shares surged nearly 640%; the People's Daily warned of AI agent dangers on March 9.
