Trump Says He'll Ask Xi to 'Open up' China to Top Business Leaders Joining Him on Trip
Trump said high-profile CEOs are joining his China visit as he seeks broader access for U.S. companies and talks with Xi begin this week.
President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Tuesday with top business leaders, planning to urge Chinese President Xi Jinping to "open up" China to companies during a state visit.
Following a turbulent trade war last year with U.S. tariffs reaching 145 percent at their peak, the two countries agreed to a year-long pause on heightened trade rates in November.
Trump travels with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and 15 others, while facing pressure from Democrats to approve a delayed $14 billion arms sale to Taiwan.
Departing the White House, Trump said he expects a "long talk" with Xi regarding Iran, which sells most of its U.S.-sanctioned oil to China.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing stands ready to "expand cooperation, manage differences and inject more stability and certainty into the turbulent world" during the talks.
