China says it is 'safeguarding order' around Taiwan-controlled South China Sea atoll
Taipei says two Chinese coast guard incidents near the atoll show Beijing is trying to assert jurisdiction over Taiwan-controlled waters.
- On Wednesday, China's government claimed its coast guard was "safeguarding order" near the Pratas, while Taiwan reported two incidents since Sunday of Chinese vessels approaching the strategically located atoll.

- The Coast Guard Administration reported conducting 15 expulsions of Chinese vessels this year, noting China employs "fake law enforcement" and "dark ship" tactics by turning off AIS to hide locations.
- Randall Schriver, chair of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, called the patrols "highly destabilizing," describing them as an extension of Beijing's legal and political warfare against Taipei.
- China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han defended the patrols as "indisputable sovereignty," blaming Taiwan's "obstinate insistence" on separatism for the risk of war across the Taiwan Strait.
