Eastern China Braces for Typhoon Dolphin, Shutting Schools and Tourist Activities
Authorities said the storm’s 162 km/h winds could bring flooding and landslides as schools, ferries and tourist sites were closed.
On Saturday, Aug. 08, authorities in eastern China shut schools and tourist sites as Typhoon Dolphin approached land.
Forecast models indicate Dolphin will strike Zhejiang province and northern Fujian late Sunday, with Shanghai also situated in the storm's path.
Estimated at about 162 kilometers per hour, the storm's maximum sustained winds threaten heavy rainfall, creating risks of severe flooding and landslides.
National authorities declared a level III emergency response, the second-lowest alert tier. Officials in Ningbo ordered schools and educational facilities closed this weekend.
Many tourist destinations in Zhejiang face closures through Sunday, with authorities suspending all water-based activities, including ferries and cruises, to prevent accidents.
