The first Chinese hydrogen locomotive will work for an extremely polluting fuel-producing giant, and will be powered by hydrogen from... coal. On May 10, China launched its very first hydrogen locomotive for commercial use, as part of an industrial demonstration. At its heart, a hybrid powertrain consisting of a fuel cell and a lithium battery planned to recover braking energy. All to carry a maximum load of 4,500 tonnes, with a range of 800 km.
