Nearly one-third of Gaza's population faces famine, with over 130,000 children under five at risk of severe malnutrition, according to a United Nations-backed report.
- On October 1, the Gaza health ministry reported that 455 Palestinians have died of malnutrition or starvation, including 151 children, after more than 700 days of war.
- The Israeli agency COGAT said analysis shows 4,400 calories per person per day entered Gaza since August, while aid agencies warn that Israel's war and blockade have pushed Gaza into a `man-made` famine.
- The IPC projected famine would reach Deir Al-Balah and Khan Younis by September, affecting nearly 641,000 people, while at least 132,000 children under five are expected to suffer acute malnutrition up to June 2026.
- Aid operators warn that GHF sites and aid pallet drops are inaccessible and dangerous, while at least 1,172 people were killed near militarized supply sites between May 27 and September 9.
- Israel dismissed the report, saying it is `false` and `partial, biased`, while Michael Fakhri accused Israel of using hunger `as a weapon against Palestinians` and a September 11 report warned of collective punishment.
