On Friday, The Supreme Court expressed concern over lawyers allegedly holding fake law degrees, with CJI Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noting that the CBI should ideally investigate the issue.
During the hearing, The Bench reprimanded a petitioner for "pursuing" a senior advocate designation, warning that if the Delhi High Court conferred the title, The Supreme Court would set it aside.
The Bench observed that "thousands of fraudulent people" are wearing black robes, criticizing the Bar Council for failing to act because they "need their votes" and asking if the petitioner wanted to join "parasites" attacking the system.
Following the remarks regarding his professional conduct, the petitioner apologized to The Bench and received permission to withdraw the petition, ending the immediate challenge.
The CJI remarked that some unemployed youngsters, whom he likened to "cockroaches," become RTI activists to attack the system, signaling he awaits an appropriate case to order a CBI investigation into Delhi advocates' degrees.
