Charles Woodson Jr., son of 1997 Heisman winner, commits to play at Michigan in 2027
On Friday, Charles Woodson Jr. announced his commitment to the University of Michigan via Instagram, choosing the Wolverines over Florida State and Kentucky among other programs.
The decision continues a family legacy at Ann Arbor, where his father, Charles Woodson, won the 1997 Heisman Trophy and national championship. The younger Woodson opted to join despite a coaching staff transition under Kyle Whittingham.
Rated as a 3-star safety in the Class of 2027, the Lake Nona High School standout recorded 73 tackles and 2 interceptions during his junior season. 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins described him as a "smart safety with best-in-class type of bloodlines."
This commitment marks Michigan's third pledge in 3 days, bringing the Class of 2027 total to 10. Lake Nona head coach David Aubrey stated the staff demonstrated a "genuine interest" in the recruit beyond his famous name.
Ivins added the recruit "should be viewed as a potential starter at the Power Four level based on what he put on tape as an 11th grader." He must add physical mass in coming years to succeed at the collegiate level.
