Thousands rush into new aid distribution centre in south Gaza
- Thousands of Palestinians stormed the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's aid distribution center in Rafah, southern Gaza, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
- The storming followed nearly three months of an Israeli blockade that severely restricted humanitarian aid entering the enclave, causing widespread hunger and desperation.
- Crowds tore down fences, climbed barriers, and overwhelmed security measures despite Israeli forces firing warning shots nearby, which forced aid workers and US personnel to retreat temporarily.
- The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has handed out thousands of food packages, providing hundreds of thousands of meals to people in Gaza, with a target of assisting around 1.2 million residents; however, some critics and UN representatives have dismissed this aid strategy as ineffective and a diversion from the essential demand to fully reopen border crossings.
- The event highlights the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with calls from the UN and aid groups for Israel to reopen all crossings and ensure secure, unimpeded aid delivery to the population.
