CATL Unlocks 95% EV Battery Utilization with Swappable Dual-Pack Setup
CATL said the system cuts range anxiety and could save fleets more than 460,000 yuan over three years.
On October 20, CATL officially unveiled its Dual-Electric Range Extender technology and expanded plan for its QiJi heavy-duty truck battery-swapping ecosystem in Beijing.
The Dual-Electric Range Extender utilizes an "A+B" architecture to solve "range anxiety," allowing primary battery depth of discharge to increase to over 95% before switching to a fixed 77 kWh backup pack.
CATL secured initial orders for 13,000 units from 14 partners including SF Express, ZTO Express, and YTO Express, while targeting 900 battery-swapping stations by year-end 2026 and 10,000 long-term.
The QiJi Battery-as-a-Service model reduces per-kWh rental costs by up to 20% for basic plans, and CATL estimates the system saves users over 460,000 yuan compared to diesel trucks over three years.
As electric heavy truck penetration in China reached 50.28% in September, QiJi Energy CEO Jesse Yang stated the combined system offers the "best solution for electrifying heavy-duty trucks.
