MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MARYLAND, AUG 3 – Catherine Hoggle faces renewed first-degree murder charges after release from psychiatric hospital; prosecutors swiftly acted to reinstate charges following a grand jury hearing.
- On Aug. 1, 2025, Catherine Hoggle was reindicted on two counts of first-degree murder and arrested in Kent County after her discharge on July 23, 2025, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
- In September 2017, Hoggle was indicted on two counts of murder but was deemed incompetent to stand trial and transferred to a maximum-security psychiatric hospital, leading to charges being dismissed on Nov. 30, 2022.
- Days after Sarah and Jacob Hoggle were last seen with their mother on Sept. 7, 2014, Hoggle was found walking alone in Germantown on Sept. 12, 2014, with their bodies never recovered.
- Hoggle remains in custody at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, scheduled to appear in court Monday on two murder counts, per the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
