The US Navy has awarded a $105 million contract to Castelion, a California-based company, to continue integration of the Blackbeard hypersonic strike missile onto F/A-18 fighter-bombers. The weapon system is expected to reach initial operational capability in 2027. This means that US aircraft carriers will become mobile hypersonic launch platforms, Army Recognition reported.
