'Carrie': Stephen King Reimagining Renewed for Season 2

The streamer says the horror series drew strong early viewership and topped Prime Video charts in more than 100 countries.

  • On Thursday, Amazon Prime Video renewed the supernatural horror series Carrie for a second season, with showrunner Mike Flanagan and author Stephen King returning to continue adapting King's 1974 novel.
  • Based on Stephen King's 1974 novel, the series stars Summer Howell as a homeschooled teenager navigating public high school and burgeoning telekinetic powers. Season 1 diverged from the book's ending, leaving the story on a cliffhanger.
  • Since its October 7 premiere, the series has topped Prime Video's global rankings in more than 105 countries. The renewal arrives just two weeks after the eight-episode first season launched to strong critical reviews.
  • Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said the series connects with "both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether," noting particular strength among female and international viewers.
  • Flanagan envisions a three-season arc for the adaptation. "From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom," Flanagan said, adding audiences can expect major character arcs and shocking twists.
