4 Killed in Fiery Chain-Reaction Crash on 605 Freeway in Norwalk; DUI Suspect Arrested
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, JUL 18 – A stolen Camaro hit a tour bus on Interstate 35, killing four including the bus driver and injuring 21, with suspects fleeing and some armed, police said.
- A fiery chain-reaction crash on the southbound 605 Freeway in Norwalk on early Sunday killed four people and injured several others.
- The crash occurred after a Kia driven by Iris Salmeron, believed under the influence, slammed into a disabled Nissan stalled from an earlier CHP vehicle collision.
- The Nissan caught fire with four occupants trapped inside, who were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, while Salmeron and a passenger were hospitalized with major injuries.
- Police arrested 26-year-old Salmeron on several felony charges, including DUI causing injury, and CHP Chief McManus stated that the investigation will be thorough and comprehensive.
- Authorities reopened all southbound lanes after 11 hours and urged anyone with information to contact the CHP’s Santa Fe Springs office to aid the ongoing investigation.
