CAQM orders 50 per cent work-from-home in Delhi-NCR offices, restricts construction activities from November 5 to 20
- On Friday, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced a complete ban on dust-generating demolition and outdoor civil construction across the National Capital Region from November 5 to November 20 to combat escalating air pollution.
- Delhi recorded "poor" air quality on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with the AQI settling at 229, according to Central Pollution Control Board data, as the region enters what Yadav called its "peak time" for pollution.
- The Commission for Air Quality Management will issue the formal order, though Yadav specified that projects of "national importance" will receive exemption from the construction ban.
- Officials are considering work-from-home mandates for five High Vehicle Density districts: Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar to reduce vehicular emissions during the ban period.
- These measures coincide with the Diwali festival on November 8 and the expected peak of paddy stubble burning, both anticipated to further degrade air quality across the region.
